Description

The Sonder sleeping bag is a streamlined, practical bag with versatile features, a spacious cut and a lighter build, designed for comfort and warmth year-round. It features Storm foot technology: the foot-box is made from waterproof, windproof, breathable fabric for warmer feet, maximum loft and better performance. The Sonder is available in three sizes – small, regular and large – and two temperatures (lower limit of comfort for males/females: -8/-2°C and -10/-4°C, all independently tested in accordance with ISO 23537-1). The Sonder is filled with top-quality 800-850 loft hydrophobic down encased in a highly breathable, DWR-treated 10-denier Vapour Vent (V2) shell. (Both down and fabric use non-PFC DWR.) The tapered rectangular shape gives space to move, while the Vertical V baffle system and draft tube keep warmth where you need it, even as you wriggle around. There’s a full-length YKK #5 zip and anti-snag locking slider, while a separate foot zip allows the bag to be fully opened to manage warmth.

Storm Foot
The ONE PLANET® Storm foot is a waterproof, windproof, breathable foot-box for our all-rounder sleeping bags, ensuring warmer feet, maximum loft and better performance. We use Pertex Quantum Pro® to protect the foot of the bags, effectively preventing moisture from entering. No more cold, damp feet from the condensation on the inside of the tent – this is a must have!

Filled In Melbourne
Each ONE PLANET Sonder sleeping bag is hand-filled to order in our Melbourne factory, usually the day after the order is placed! We’ve been filling our sleeping bags in Australia for more than 40 years: it’s the best way to ensure premium-quality, freshly-made bags.

We can personally embroider every stuff sack. It brings us great joy to make your bag as unique as you are.

Hydrophobic Down
All ONE PLANET down has been treated with a non-PFC hydrophobic water-repellency application. This causes the down to repel water rather than absorb it, minimising clumping and helping the down stay dry and lofty.

Hydrophobic down allows your sleeping bag to dry quicker and stay warm for longer, and is especially important for bags used on multi-day journeys or in wet conditions.

Baffle Construction
ONE PLANET baffle technology maximises thermal efficiency. The Vertical V baffle system uses vertical and V baffles to keep our lofty down in its precise location, no matter how you wriggle and roll. Box-wall baffles connect the outer shell and internal fabric, creating 3D chambers that promote lofting, aid even insulation and stop draughts. The differential cut also assists lofting: the internal fabric is cut narrower than the outer shell, making the bag’s inner circumference smaller than its outer.

Vapour Vent V2
The Vapour Vent (V2) fabrics are lightweight, breathable nylon with non-PFC water-repellent treatment that promotes hands-free moisture management. The smooth fabrics are light and warm to the touch, ideal for use on multi-day journeys. The tight weave and high thread count ensures they are ‘downproof by construction’. The majority of our bags use the silky, light, 10-denier version both inside and out, while some use the more durable 20-denier option.

Premium Loft
We use 800-850 loft non-PFC hydrophobic down – our premium choice and a must for the gram counters. The quality of down used in a Sonder sleeping bag makes a huge difference to its warmth, weight, durability and compactness, as well as the loft recovery of the down. We use the best down available, ensuring that our bags are warmer and more compact than similar weight bags that use inferior fill. Because what adventurer doesn’t want a warmer, smaller bag?

Zips
Every detail counts. We use YKK #5 locking zips with an anti-snag slider. The anti-snag covers make jamming zips a thing of the past, while the YKK #5 zip is more reliable, durable and lasts longer than lower-gauge zips. Using a locking slider stops the zip from creeping open, so it will stay where you want it to for a good night’s sleep.

Ethically-Sourced Down
ONE PLANET takes seriously its responsibility to uphold the highest standards of animal welfare. Our down is gathered in a way that meets our strict ethical and quality standards, and it’s sourced as a by-product from the food and meat industry. We source from certified facilities and audit with the IDFL (International Down and Feather Laboratory). There is no chance of cross contamination as we fill the bags in our Melbourne factory with our own audited batches of down.

Down Distribution
In ONE PLANET Sonder sleeping bags, 55 per cent of the down fill is on the top and 45 per cent is on the bag’s base. We’ve selected this distribution of down after carefully considering how real people move and sleep – after all, we want it to work in real life! This down distribution ensures you stay warm in every position, preventing a cold back as you roll, wriggle and move.

Features
  • Tapered rectangular shape and zipped foot give versatility and roomy comfort to the Sonder sleeping bag
  • Vertical V baffle system reduces down migration, keeping it trapped where you need it most
  • Differentially cut baffles promote full and complete lofting of down
  • The Sonder shell is made from 10-denier Vapour Vent (V2), which is downproof by construction, highly breathable, and has non-PFC water-repellent treatment
  • Storm foot technology: the Sonder uses waterproof, windproof and breathable Pertex Quantum Pro® fabric on the bag foot. This Storm foot keeps water out and warmth in, ideal when you brush up against condensation or moisture on the tent wall.
  • The half-moon foot-box is wide and cosy, while base draft tubes keep you warm and toasty
  • The contoured hood encloses your head, cinching tight while leaving enough space for your nose and mouth
  • A full-length side zip runs from hood to ankle. It’s a YKK #5 (a durable, reliable zipper) with locking slider, so if you half zip the bag, it won’t unzip as you wriggle and roll. The innovative, anti-snag cover prevents the zip catching
  • The independent foot zip runs from ankle to ankle and can be fully opened for extra ventilation. The two zips meet above the ankle, with a 10 centimetre crossover to keep draughts out
  • A draught tube along the zip insulates the zip area, keeping warmth in
  • Joined at the zip: full-length zips allow models with compatible left and right zips to be zipped together
  • A draught tube along the zip insulates the zipper area, keeping warmth in
  • Non-PFC hydrophobic down repels water, helping down stay lofty in all conditions
  • Bags hand-filled with ethically-sourced, ultralight 800-850 loft, non-PFC hydrophobic down

How Warm Will I Be?

ISO 23537-1 temperature testing gives a temperature limit at which a ‘standard male’ or ‘standard female’ will sleep in thermal equilibrium (have a comfortable night’s sleep).

Both are based on a fit and healthy 25-year-old. If you’re older or younger, you may sleep colder than the ‘standard’, so we would recommend considering a warmer bag. Your other equipment (sleeping mat, pillow, tent style), the environment (weather, location) and your biology can affect your warmth during the night.

The Importance of Independent ISO 23537-1 Testing

Each ONE PLANET Sonder sleeping bag is temperature rated in accordance with the International Organisation for Standardisation 23537-1 (Requirements for sleeping bags). This is the only globally-recognised standard for the temperature testing of sleeping bags, and gives ratings for both females and males. Testing sleeping bags to ISO 23527-1 allows users to make informed, educated and accurate decisions.

The ISO 23537-1 testing methods allows objective comparisons of the warmth of different shapes (box and zipped foot), sizes (small, regular and large), fill quality (synthetic fill, 700+ and 800+ loft down), construction and design.

Not all manufacturers test to this standard, nor do they give information about how they arrive at their temperature ratings. As a result, care should be taken when comparing claims of warmth.
