Review: Arc'teryx Norvan 14 Trail Running Vest Pack

by Find Your Feet Australia Pty Ltd - 08 Nov 2018

If you are looking for a durable waterproof trail running vest for those epic adventures, then look no further than the Arc'teryx Norvan 14.

Arcteryx Norvan 14 Vest Pack Trail Running

I recently took my Arc'teryx Norvan 14 for its maiden jaunt near Cradle Mountain.  The initial trip had been planned for an out and back to Barn Bluff, but due to low cloud and rain and wind, we opted to do a circuit around the back of Cradle Mountain to Scott Kilvert Hut and over Hanson’s Peak instead.  The run was beautiful but soggy with on and off (mostly on) drizzle.  The absolute plus of the Arcteryx Norvan 14 is that it is waterproof, meaning that my vegemite sandwiches remained intact for my halfway munch.

The main pack is roomy and has the potential to hold so much gear that self-restraint not to fill it up is important! It compresses well when not full, which makes it versatile to most ventures. The vest comes with a 2-litre bladder which fits neatly behind the main pocket. The front pockets can fit soft flasks and my only criticism is that the 500ml soft flask sits higher than I found comfortable and next time I’ll use my smaller soft flask (250mL) in the front.

The pack sits comfortably around the chest, has adjustment options and is light. Initially I was unsure how the side pockets would hold my stash of gels but once the vest was on, they were easy to reach and held my gels well.

There are a few zip pocket options in the pack too which is also handy, including one in the main compartment perfect for keeping the car key safe. It has adjustment pocket and strap options for the outside of the pack to hold a range of items such as, wet jackets or poles.

While I didn’t have the chance to thoroughly check out the durability of the pack on this trip, the material leaves me in little doubt it will live up to expectations of being able to withstand all range of adventures. Just as well, as the list of trails I aim to explore is only increasing!
