Head Torches
Find Your Feet aims to provide a comprehensive range of head torches for both athletes and individuals seeking a quiet trekking or camping escape. We have put together a comparison chart for all of the head torches that we stock at Find Your Feet. We have ranked the head torches on a number of key performance functions:
Lumen Rating
This is a rating of how bright the torch is. The brighter the torch, the better it will provide definition on a trail. For trail running, we recommend a minimum of 200 lumen. However, for general camping, if the torch is too bright it can be harder to use in a tent environment.
USB Charging Capability
Some head torches can now be charged through a USB cable. In general these torches have a shorter battery life but it is very handy if you are using the torch frequently ie. for winter training runs.
Reactive Lighting
When a torch has reactive lighting, it automatically adjusts the brightness and width of the beam to suit your needs. When you are running on an open trail, the torch provides a bright, wide beam to highlight the trail’s definitions. When you look down at a map or are in a more enclosed environment, the torch automatically dims the light and narrows the beam. This feature is brilliant for trail runners or performance athletes in the sports of orienteering, rogaining or adventure racing.
Red Light
Whilst not a necessity, the presence of a red light is great for emergency uses and also for non-disruptive night time use i.e wildlife spotting or late at night to avoid disturbing others.
Best Uses
We have then summarised these factors by stating where each torch performs best, whether it is for trail running, adventure sports, trekking or simply around camp.
