Suunto was born in Finland more than 80 years ago, when championship-level orienteer and keen outdoor enthusiast Tuomas Vohlonen invented the mass production method for the liquid filled compass.
Since then, Suunto has been at the forefront of innovation, hand crafting premium sports watches, instruments and dive computers that have been tested in the world’s harshest conditions. From the beginning of time, man has explored. All that has changed are the tools.
The word “Suunto” comes from the Finnish word meaning “direction”. Suunto is pronounced “Soon-toh”.
The Suunto Spartan solution comprises of Suunto Spartan GPS watches and renewed Suunto Movescount service. The Spartan watches showcase an extremely durable & bright color touch screen and robust materials on the outside, and sports expertise and training insights on the inside. Suunto Movescount service supplements the experience with community powered training tools and heatmaps.
The new Suunto Spartan watches are really sleek and streamlined. The GPS unit is now built into the watch rather than on the strap, an especially big perk for us girls with smaller wrists.
What I also loved about the new Suunto Spartan Watches is that you can adjust the face. Need a second hand? No problem. Prefer a digital display? Too easy!
The watch has a touchscreen and responds to sweaty or damp fingers very easily.
When it comes to accuracy, I know that the Suunto Spartan GPS watches have copped some criticism. But, to be honest, I have not had any issues.
I love that if you ensure your personal data is accurate, the watch can determine how much recovery you require from a session.
The other thing I am loving about my Spartan Ultra GPS watch is the battery life. The Spartan Ultra watches have up to 20hrs battery life on the most accurate 1 sec GPS recorder.
"In summary, this is my ideal watch. It can meet my most technical needs out on the trails but then I can live in it, sleep in it and feel proud of it on my wrist. The new updates by the Suunto developers appear to have mended any of the earlier teething issues and so I am confident to honestly say, ‘Suunto, you have really nailed it!’"
Suunto Movescount makes us feel like a pro. Suunto Movescount is the online software that, amongst other things, allows you to download and monitor your training data. At Find Your Feet we always have our Suunto Movescount dashboard open in the background. There is also a Suunto Movescount App for your smart phone which sinks via bluetooth to most Suunto Watches. What we love about Suunto Movescount is the detail:
Create your training plans
Review your training
Keep a training diary
Be stoked with how much vertical climbing you have achieved
Log your best races or training endeavours
Customise your Suunto Watch features
Share your trail running moves (sessions)
